Flashark Cold Air intake kit for 2017-2019 Ford F250 F350 F450 F550 V8 6.7L Powerstroke Diesel
The factory intake on the 2017–2019 6.7L Powerstroke Super Duty is a plastic airbox housing a paper panel filter, feeding a turbocharger that moves enough air to support 440 HP and 925 lb-ft of torque from the factory. At stock power levels the OEM setup is adequate — but as soon as you tow heavy, run a tune, or push sustained boost through the engine, the factory paper filter becomes a restriction and the plastic airbox traps heat-soaked engine bay air. On a diesel, hot intake air means higher EGTs, reduced turbo efficiency, and less power density per compression stroke.
This Flashark cold air intake addresses the weak points of the factory setup with three changes: (1) the restrictive paper panel filter is replaced by a high-flow washable cone filter with significantly more surface area, (2) the enclosed plastic airbox is replaced by a heat shield enclosure that isolates the filter from radiant engine bay heat, and (3) the intake piping is smoothed and enlarged to reduce restriction ahead of the turbo compressor inlet.
The result: lower intake air temperatures at the turbo inlet, reduced restriction under sustained boost, faster turbo spool from a standing start, and a induction note that finally sounds like the 6.7L it's attached to. Fits all 2017–2019 Ford F-250, F-350, F-450, and F-550 Super Duty models with the 6.7L Powerstroke V8 diesel.
Direct bolt-on install in 45–90 minutes.
Key Features
1. Enclosed Heat Shield Airbox Design
This is not an open-element intake — it includes a formed metal heat shield that surrounds the cone filter and seals against the hood when closed. On a 6.7L Powerstroke, the turbocharger and exhaust manifold radiate substantial heat into the engine bay during sustained towing or hard acceleration. The heat shield isolates the filter from that radiant heat, drawing cooler ambient air from the factory fresh-air inlet. Cooler intake air = denser oxygen charge = more power per combustion event and lower EGTs under load.
2. High-Flow Washable Dry Cone Filter
The filter element replaces the factory flat paper panel with a cone design that provides significantly more filtration surface area. More surface area means less restriction at the same airflow volume, which is critical for a turbodiesel moving the kind of air mass the 6.7L demands under boost. The dry media design requires no oil — no maintenance schedule, no risk of over-oiling contaminating the MAF sensor, and no replacement cost. When dirty: wash it, dry it, reinstall.
3. Black Powder-Coated Aluminum Intake Piping
The intake pipe is constructed from mandrel-bent aluminum with a black powder-coated finish. The powder coating provides a durable, corrosion-resistant surface that stands up to the heat and vibration of a diesel engine bay — unlike polished aluminum, which can oxidize and dull over time in this environment. The black finish pairs with the red filter for a clean, purposeful look. The mandrel-bent construction means the interior bore stays at full diameter through every bend, unlike crush-bent pipes that neck down at the curve.
4. Reduced Intake Restriction — Faster Turbo Spool
The factory paper panel filter and restrictive intake snorkel create measurable vacuum ahead of the turbo compressor — particularly at low RPM and high-load conditions where the engine is pulling hard against a restriction the turbo hasn't spooled through yet. By reducing that restriction, the Flashark intake allows the turbo to build boost faster from a standing start and from part-throttle roll-on, which translates directly to better towing response and daily driving manners.
5. Lower Intake Air Temperatures Under Load
Diesel engines are sensitive to intake air temperature — hot intake air reduces the density of the oxygen charge entering the cylinders, which raises EGTs, reduces peak power, and forces the ECU to pull fuel to protect the engine. The Flashark heat shield enclosure, combined with the removal of the heat-soaking plastic airbox, delivers a measurable reduction in intake air temperature at the turbo inlet during sustained towing and heavy acceleration.
6. Bolt-On Installation — No Tuning Required
The kit is designed as a direct replacement for the factory airbox and intake tract. All mounting points reuse factory bolt locations. The MAF sensor and any existing sensor ports are retained in their original positions on the Flashark pipe. No cutting, no drilling, no fabrication. The factory ECU adapts to the increased airflow naturally without requiring a tune — although pairing this intake with a tuner (SCT, EZ Lynk, etc.) will extract the maximum benefit.
7. Deeper, More Audible Turbo and Induction Sound
The factory airbox and intake resonator are deliberately designed to mute turbo spool and induction noise for cabin comfort. Removing those components reveals the 6.7L Powerstroke's natural character — a deep, throaty intake note under acceleration and audible turbo spool that communicates exactly what the engine is doing. Cabin noise at highway cruise remains civil; the increased volume is limited to acceleration events.
8. Truck-Specific Fit — Not a Universal Kit
This intake is engineered for the 2017–2019 Super Duty engine bay geometry specifically. The heat shield mounting points, intake pipe routing, and filter position are designed to work with the 6.7L Powerstroke's factory fresh-air inlet and hood clearance in the F-250/F-350/F-450/F-550 platform. It is not a universal-fit kit with generic brackets.
