Description

The factory airbox on the 2002-2007 Subaru WRX (GD/GG chassis) is a restrictive plastic housing with a narrow-diameter snorkel and a corrugated rubber inlet hose that limits airflow before it even reaches your turbo. For the EJ205 (2.0L) and EJ255 (2.5L) turbocharged boxer engines, that means delayed spool, muted turbo sound, and throttle response that feels soft off-boost — exactly the opposite of what makes a WRX fun to drive.

This cold air intake kit replaces the entire factory system with a 3.0-inch mandrel-bent aluminum intake tube finished in a durable black powder-coated finish. The oversized dry cone filter mounts low in the fender well behind the passenger-side headlight, pulling cooler, denser air from outside the engine bay. A complete set of silicone couplers, stainless steel T-bolt clamps, and vehicle-specific mounting brackets is included — no cutting, no drilling, and no additional parts required.

On a stock-tune WRX, expect gains of 8-15 WHP and 8-12 lb-ft of torque, with the biggest difference being a noticeably faster turbo spool and sharper throttle tip-in. The sound transformation is dramatic: you'll hear the turbo spool whistle through the intake, a crisp bypass valve release on lift-off, and a deeper, more aggressive induction note under boost. Installation takes 60-90 minutes with basic hand tools and does not permanently modify any factory components.

True Cold Air Intake Routing — Filter mounts in the passenger-side fender well, isolating it from engine bay heat. Colder intake air means denser oxygen charge, which directly translates to more power and lower risk of knock on a turbocharged engine.

Complete Bolt-On Kit — Includes all required silicone couplers, stainless steel T-bolt clamps, MAF adapter plate, breather hose, and vehicle-specific mounting brackets. Reuses your factory MAF sensor and air temperature sensor — simply unbolt and transfer.

Turbo Spool & Throttle Response — By removing the restrictive factory snorkel and airbox, the turbocharger can draw air with significantly less resistance. Expect improved spool characteristics, especially noticeable in 2nd-4th gear pulls.

Aggressive Induction Sound — Expect a pronounced turbo spool whistle, sharper bypass valve (BOV) venting, and a deeper intake growl under boost. For many WRX owners, the sound alone justifies the upgrade.
