Cold Air Intake Kit for 2001-2005 Honda Civic DX EX LX HX Si 1.7L & 2.0L
The seventh-generation Civic (2001-2005, EM2/ES1/EP3 chassis) came with an intake system designed for silence and cost, not airflow. The factory airbox routes intake air through a narrow-diameter snorkel, a restrictive paper panel filter, and a ribbed rubber intake hose — all of which choke the D17 1.7L and K20A3 2.0L engines at anything above 4,000 RPM. Unfortunately, most aftermarket solutions force a trade-off: Long Ram for cold air but sluggish throttle response, or Short Ram for better throttle response but hotter engine bay air.
This kit solves that problem with a dual-pipe design — you get both a Long Ram pipe (true cold air, routes filter into the fender well behind the driver-side bumper) and a Short Ram pipe (filter stays in the engine bay for instant throttle snap), all in one box. Both pipes are mandrel-bent from 63mm (2.5-inch) aluminum with a durable black powder-coated finish, and both use the same high-flow dry cone filter. The included hardware — silicone couplers, stainless steel clamps, breather hose, and vehicle-specific mounting bracket — lets you install either configuration without cutting, drilling, or making any permanent modifications.
Power gains are honest: 3-7 WHP on D17 engines, 4-8 WHP on the K20A3 Si, with the most noticeable improvements being sharper throttle tip-in, better mid-range pull from 3,500-5,500 RPM, and a deeper, more aggressive induction note. No ECU tune is required on naturally aspirated D17 or K20A3 engines — the factory MAF sensor and ECU fuel trims adapt safely. Installation takes 45-75 minutes with basic hand tools, and switching between Long Ram and Short Ram configurations takes about 20 minutes once you're familiar with the routing.
Key Features
63mm (2.5") Mandrel-Bent Aluminum Piping — Both pipes are precision-bent from lightweight aluminum with a black powder-coated finish. Smooth internal walls eliminate turbulence caused by the factory-ribbed rubber hose. Rated for under-hood temperatures exceeding 400°F.
High-Flow Dry Cone Filter — Red synthetic cotton gauze media, washable and reusable. No oil required — eliminates any risk of MAF sensor contamination. Filter dimensions: 120mm top OD × 155mm bottom OD × 63mm inlet ID.
Covers Every 2001-2005 Civic Trim — Compatible with DX, LX, EX (D17A1/D17A2), HX (D17A6 VTEC-E lean burn), GX (D17A7 CNG natural gas), and Si (K20A3 2.0L EP3 hatchback). One kit for the entire chassis generation.
Complete Bolt-On Hardware Kit — Includes 2× silicone straight couplers (63mm), 4× stainless steel clamps, reinforced breather hose, aluminum mounting bracket with M6 rubber vibration isolator, washer, lock nut, and grommets. Reuses your factory MAF sensor.
Aggressive Induction Sound — Expect a noticeably deeper intake growl under throttle, especially above 3,500 RPM. The D17 VTEC crossover becomes audibly sharper; the K20A3 Si gains a satisfying induction bark through the intake.
